FARNWORTH Social Circle began their defence of the Bolton Cricket League Anthony Axford Indoor Trophy under way on Sunday with a win against Daisy Hill.

Batting first, Daisy scored 61-5 off their 12 overs.

They say catches win matches and this certainly was the case as David Tonge took an extremely difficult one off his own bowling, and Richard Dempster pulled off a diving one-handed effort.

The top scorer for Daisy Hill was Asif Fazal with 15.

In reply, FSC scored 62 for the loss of one wicket with five overs to spare.

In the second game Lostock came out on top against a young Bradshaw side.

Lostock batted first and posted 106-5 off their 12 overs.

Rob Holgate top scored with 34 not out and was ably supported by Connor Hicklin, who scored 18, and Adam Syddall with 16.

Bradshaw's fielding was excellent, running out four batsmen.

In reply, Bradshaw made a good attempt to chase down the runs with Elliot Gargan scoring 34, Jack Shovelton 15 and Ross Dickinson 14.

Bradshaw needed 24 off the last three overs with the last batsmen in.

But it wasn't to be as their innings closed in the 10th over with their score on 85.

The third match was awarded to Westhoughton as Tonge forfeited the game.

This Sunday's fixtures: 12.30pm Kearsley v Farnworth, 1.45pm Eagley v Heaton, 3pm Astley Bridge v Adlington, 4.15pm Blackrod v Darcy Lever.
