BRADFORD’S Darren Tetley will return to the ring in September for his biggest fight since he won the European title.

The Holme Wood boxer takes on Liam Taylor in a British welterweight title eliminator at Wakefield’s LS-Live behind closed doors.

It has been a frustrating last couple of years for the undefeated 26-year-old, following that career highlight victory over Mason Cartwright at Elland Road in May 2018.

However, since linking up with managerial company MTK Global in February, the future has looked bright.

A month later, he knocked out Nicaraguan Arnoldo Solano in the second round, before his progress was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With Queensbury’s Frank Warren and Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn announcing their first shows for next Friday and August respectively, the boxing world seems to be bouncing back, albeit with no crowds.

In recent times, MTK have been hosting their own events, broadcasting live on YouTube channel IFLTV and across the pond on ESPN+, in association with Top Rank.

Yesterday, they announced three blockbuster shows to take place on August 11, August 25 and September 1.

Tetley faces Taylor on the latter date, in what promises to be a tough night at the office for the Bradfordian, with his opponent having a resume to be respected.

The Middleton boxer has won 21 professional fights and drew his last contest with British champion Chris Jenkins, due to a head clash stopping the bout in the fourth, back in November.

Taylor only has the one defeat to his name, a points defeat to Huddersfield’s Tyrone Nurse in 2015, which he avenged three years later.

MTK Global vice president and former world title challenger Jamie Conlan said: “Darren Tetley vs. Liam Taylor is an exceptional contest between two fighters on the cusp of the British title.”
