OXFORD United have been dealt a blow with the news Matty Taylor has been ruled out for up to three weeks.

The striker, who is the side’s second highest scorer with ten goals, suffered a medial knee ligament injury during Tuesday night’s goalless draw with Ipswich Town.

U’s boss Karl Robinson said: “In the last ten minutes of the game he had a kick to his knee.

“We thought it was just a kick, but on Wednesday morning it was a little more than we first thought.

“He’ll be a big loss to us.

“It’s probably at worst three weeks, but Matty thinks he’ll be back for the next league game.”

As well as today’s trip to Gillingham, it will mean Taylor misses next weekend’s Emirates FA Cup trip to Newcastle United and possibly the Sky Bet League One game with Blackpool.

With the transfer window open until the end of the month United do have the possibility of strengthening their attacking options.

Robinson was keen even before the Taylor injury, while United are looking at loaning out Dan Agyei.

He said: “I think we need one anyway. We’ve spoken with Dan about going on loan and learning his trade and playing minutes.

“But there’s not a great deal out there (in terms of other options), so we’ve got to be very cute in what we do.”
