How did the players fare in Newcastle United's 1-0 defeat at Burnley?

BURNLEY (4-4-2):

Pope 7; Bardsley 7, MEE 8, Tarkowski 7, Pieters 6; Hendrick 5, Westwood 7, Cork 6, McNeil 7; Wood 7 (Rodriguez 85), Barnes 6.

Subs (not used): Hart (gk), Lowton, Drinkwater, Brady, Lennon, Vydra.

NEWCASTLE (3-4-3):

6 Dubravka: Made a fine second-half save to deny Cork, but might have been more decisive at the corner that led to Burnley’s winner

6 Schar: Out-jumped by Wood for Burnley’s winning goal, but battled gamely throughout despite suffering a series of bumps and bruises

6 Fernandez: Played as the central of the three centre-halves in Clark’s absence and kept Barnes and Wood quiet from open play

7 DUMMETT: The pick of Newcastle’s players as he won a series of tackles and headers – remains a key unsung part of the team

6 Manquillo: Solid enough defensively on the right-hand side, but fired far too many aimless balls into the middle

6 Hayden: Was just about the best player on the pitch in the first half, but his influence faded after the break

4 S Longstaff: Was the chief culprit for Newcastle’s dreadful dead-ball deliveries – repeatedly failed to beat the first man

5 Willems: Had to keep his attacking runs in check somewhat and didn’t have the influence he has wielded in a number of recent games

4 Atsu: Restored to the starting line-up in the absence of Saint-Maximin, but did nothing to suggest he merits a lengthy run in the team

7 Carroll: Gave everything as he battled against Burnley’s centre-halves – couldn’t find the target with his only chance in the first half though

5 Joelinton: Hasn’t made an impact as a central striker, and didn’t really look much more effective shuffled out to the left-hand side

Subs:

Gayle (for Willems, 71)

Muto (for Atsu, 80)

(not used): Elliot (gk), Krafth, Lejeune, Yedlin, M Longstaff.

Man Of The Match: BEN MEE – The Burnley centre-half had the unenviable task of trying to shackle Andy Carroll, and stood up to his opponent’s physical onslaught manfully.
