SARAH Stirk is hoping a special golf day next month will provide an Oxfordshire charity with a big cash boost, writes MARK EDWARDS.

The Sky Sports presenter, who lives in the county, is hosting the event at the Springs GC in aid of Dogs for Good.

Stirk has been an ambassador for the organisation, who are based in Banbury, for the past two years.

She has also enticed top golfer – and fellow dog lover – Eddie Pepperell to come along to the Wallingford-based course on Thursday, October 31.

“I get asked to do a lot of charity events and thought this was the perfect thing to do,” she said.

“I have always grown up with dogs and know how much joy and happiness they can bring to people.

“I will be playing and hosting the event, and was keen to get Eddie involved as it’s local and everyone knows about his love for dogs.”

Pepperell will arrive later in the day for a special question and answer session – and will not come on his own.

“Sarah asked me a while ago,” he said.

“I will take the dogs along too – it will be fun.

“The two dogs I have – Gus, a Hungarian Viszla and Pip, a German short-haired pointer – are really active and they get you out and about.

“They do drive a fair bit of our lives.

“Every time you come home at least someone is happy to see you, no matter how you’ve played.”

Dogs for Good train dogs to help adults and children with disabilities, autism and dementia.

“It really is an amazing charity,” said Stirk, who has a golden labrador, Mia.

“I really get the value of what dogs can bring to people’s lives.

“Hopefully the day will raise a good deal of money to help Dogs for Good continue the brilliant work they are doing.”

There are still a few places available, which can be secured by emailing events@

dogsforgood.org or calling 01295 759 838.

General individual entry is also available subject to availability and includes coffee and bacon baps on arrival, 18 holes of golf plus a two-course meal and plenty of prizes.

Stephanie Lawless, fundraising manager for Dogs for Good said: “By attending our golf day you will help us to train more life-changing dogs.

“If you’re a dog lover as well as a golfer, then this is the perfect event for you!”
