DAN Roberts notched a hat-trick as Windsor FC extended their unbeaten run in the Hellenic Premier to three matches with an impressive 5-1 home victory against struggling Abingdon United.

Mick Woodham’s hosts got off to a sluggish start as Callum Harvey went close for Abingdon in the seventh minute.

But they failed to heed the warning and Harvey made no mistake three minutes later by converting a Jayce Mascarenhas-Olivero cross to give the visitors an unexpected lead.

However, it was the wake-up call Windsor needed and they steadily grew in confidence with Kieran Knight, Jamie Di Giuseppe, Matt Stockill and Roberts going close.

And they drew level on the half-hour mark when Di Giuseppe supplied Roberts who made no mistake for his first of the game.

Windsor couldn’t add to their tally before the break despite seeing Rob Lazarczuk threaten on two occasions.

But the second half was a different story as Windsor’s superior quality came through in the end and they got their noses in front 11 minutes after the restart.

Once again, it was Roberts who grabbed the goal with Kane Fitzgerald providing the assist as the pressure began to tell on Abingdon.

The two more goals within a three-minute burst killed off the weary visitors.

Paul Coyne put Woodham’s men 3-1 up on 69 minutes then Roberts completed his third hat-trick of the season on 72 minutes.

There was still time for George Gould to put the icing on the cake with Windsor’s fifth in stoppage time.

Windsor sit 13th in the table and this Tuesday night they entertain Reading City, who are three places below (7.45pm ko).

Windsor then travel Binfield, the side immediately beneath them, in the league this Saturday (3pm) and host the same opponents next Tuesday night in the quarter finals of the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup (7.45pm).
