Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to trace after a school boy was subjected to racist abuse and hit on the head.

The 16-year-old was on a school trip in Edinburgh last month when the incident took place on Montgomery Street.

Racial abuse was directed at a group of teenagers before the boy was hit on the head, injuring his face, police said.

Officers want to speak to a man in his late 20s in connection with the assault on April 25.

He is described as white, around 5ft 6in, of medium build, and has short dark that is longer on the top.

He is pictured wearing a white fur-lined denim jacket, a black Armani t-shirt with a white EA logo on the front, and black trousers.

Detective Constable Neill Watt said: “This was a violent attack on a teenage boy, who came to our city on a school trip and was left with painful facial injuries.

“We’re eager to speak to this man in connection with our ongoing inquiries and would urge anyone who may recognise him, or has information relevant to this investigation, to contact us.”
