A group of dedicated riders have cyclists from Whitehaven to Tynemouth raising thousands of pounds for charity.

The team took two days to complete the epic challenge to help raise funds for the Read Foundation which is building a school in Syria for 265 displaced children.

The riders from Manchester and Lancashire set off from Whitehaven in the Lake District and finished their ride in Tynemouth, Newcastle, 130 miles later.

Shoaib Mahmood who took part in the challenge said: "We would like to thank to all the team for their amazing achievement over the weekend on the Coast to Coast challenge.

"It was an amazing achievement to cover 130 miles in two days. Special thanks to the support team ensuring the riders were well looked after and the event ran smooth.

"Big thanks also to the event sponsors, MWG Solicitors, Heald Green Pharmacy, Q-Sustain, Intuition and Tex Ann for making the ride possible, and of course the donors that helped fundraise towards the project."

The 'Build my school with me' project in Idlib, Syria, aims to increase access to basic education by securing and providing safe learning environments.

The project involves the construction and winterisation of classrooms and wash facilities. Provision of learning materials will be made to children aged between 6 and 12 years at basic education level and a Teacher Learning Circle will be established.
