NBC decided to hold off broadcasting for the hugely popular 100m event until prime time which left fans outraged.

Fans were also annoyed as NBC refused to apologies to the millions of viewers who felt let down.

NBC’s executive producer responded to these complaints using Twitter and pointed out the race was streaming live online.

However the link did not work during Bolt’s race, causing Americans to miss the race live and instead watch it four hours later.

A disappointed American tweeted: 'Tried to watch 100m final live online. Started buffering right before start... and picked back up right after finish. Thanks, NBC!'

While another Twitter user joked: 'Usain Bolt outruns the NBC live stream's buffer!'
