A student has found himself listed on a neo-nazi website after researching into the far -right for his course.

Andi Ali a 35-year-old postgraduate student at the University of Central Lancashire said he was shocked to find pictures of him had been posted on the website Redwatch.

As part of his research Andi went to Anti-Nazi League demonstrations where far right groups were present.

He said, "One of the most frightening things I have had is an email from someone warning me that I had upset 'some very nasty people' and if things continued I could end up with a bullet in my head.

"The police have told me to be careful and make sure that I'm not followed."

Last month a schoolteacher from Leeds who is a member of the Anti-Nazi league had his car firebombed. His details had been posted on Redwatch.

The website was set up by racist group Combat 18, which at one time had links with the British National Party.

It's slogan is: "White revolution is the only solution."

Pictures of journalist Anna Ford and Burnley race campaigner Shahid Malik are also posted on Redwatch.

Combat 18 is a highly secretive group but it is thought the idea for Redwatch came from American Nazis who set it up to monitor and target Jewish people.

Andi said, "I have regrets in that once my thesis is finished I will still have to watch my back.

"It only takes one lunatic to pop out and shoot you. But I am not going to stop my research simply because a group of fascists are opposed to it."

Andi's parents have passed away. But his father was Pakistani and his mother was Irish. They met in Blackburn.

Growing up in Liverpool, Andi never felt his mixed parentage was a problem.

"I have had comments generally on the street but apart from that I have never had any racist attacks upon me. In fact the only time that race has become apparent is since I started my research.

"My godparents are very supportive although they worry about me."

Andi is now cautious when meeting new people. He has asked friends and family not to give his details out to anyone.

"When I meet new people I am always wondering who they are and why they are talking to me. When I am walking around University I see males under 35 with baseball caps or skinheads and I ask myself are they here from Redwatch? Are they here to take action against me?"

Andi's work has revealed some chilling findings.

He believes that open debate with the far right is the best way to fight back against them.

"At the moment if anybody tries to have a debate with members of the far right they are either labelled a racist or politically in correct. The BNP are now using that to their advantage.

Debbie Jacks spokesperson for the Anti- Nazi League said, "Most people in this country recognise that we live in a multicultural society and they are anti-racist and anti-nazi. Combat 18 are a very small minority group but they are out there to harm us."
