VISITORS to Bradford on Avon who came for the town’s annual duck race today will be disappointed.

Sadly, the town council which organises the race down the River Avon from the town bridge has postponed the event for the second time.

The council said: “Unfortunately, due to poor weather and a dangerously high and fast river, the Duck Race will not be going ahead this Monday 6 May.

“The jetty where the ducks are collected is underwater, and there’s more rain forecast for the coming days.

“We’ve made the regrettable decision to postpone the event until the conditions are such that everyone involved would be safe.

“We will share the new date as soon as possible.”

The duck race was originally scheduled to be held on Easter Bank Holiday Monday but was postponed for safety reasons to May 6 because of high winds and swollen rivers.

The race traditionally begins at 12 noon and the council had organised fun and games from 10am at Westbury Garden.

Every year, thousands flock to the town to take part or watch the spectacle that is part of Bradford on Avon’s annual town events calendar.
