Bury's MPs have expressed their delight after Radcliffe FC achieved promotion at the weekend.

The club sealed the NPL Premier Division championship after a 2-1 win at Whitby Town on Saturday to win promotion to National League North for the first time in the club's 75-year history.

The promotion comes in management duo Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley's first season.

Bury South MP Christian Wakeford and Bury North MP James Daly have praised the club for their success.

Mr Wakeford said:  “I’m over the moon for Bern, Jonno and all the lads down at Radcliffe on what has been an outstanding season from start to finish.

"It is a fantastic achievement and no mean feat getting out of the Northern Premier League is testament to the football they’ve been playing.

"The whole town is so proud and already looking forward to the challenge of next season. See you all on Saturday for the trophy presentation!”

Mr Daly added: “It is absolutely brilliant to see Radcliffe promoted to the National League North.

"The club really is at the heart of the community and over time has grown to have some of the highest home attendances and away followings in the league.

"The club is truly special and I really believe that the foundations are there for this to lead to a very bright future for this excellent local club.”
