Rovers are continuing talks with Tyrhys Dolan over a new contract as they search for their next breakthrough.

Negotiations are ongoing with Dolan, and while Rovers have moved a step closer, there is still work to do if they are to finalise a long-term extension.

Rovers secured the signature of Joe Rankin-Costello ahead of the trip to Austria as he became latest player to commit his future to the club on a four-year deal.

The club are hoping to do likewise with Dolan, with talks having been ongoing for some time.

They slowed due to a change of representative, but they have now continued with the player who has clocked up 124 appearances since arriving on a free transfer three years ago.

Dolan has a year left to run on his current deal, and while the club do have the option to extend that for a further 12 months to protect his value, the situation isn’t ideal.

Clubs have been linked with potential moves, of which Rovers could be forced to be more open to than they would otherwise wish because of his contract situation.

The priority remains however to agree a new deal with the 21-year-old who scored in the pre-season friendly with Accrington Stanley last weekend, and has 14 goals and 13 assists at first-team level.

He is one of a crop of attackers who the club will be looking at to step up following the departures of Ben Brereton and Bradley Dack.

Sam Gallagher is the other player who is into the final 12 months of his deal, though like Dolan he does have an option in his contract.

Tayo Edun will leave the club this summer once suitable bids are forthcoming, with his contract situation likewise, but Rovers are otherwise well protected as they look to avoid situations of recent seasons where players with expiring deals have been able to leave on free transfers.

That club have been proactive with contracts, are understood to have a deal in place with Arnor Sigurdsson that will see him become a longer-term signing for the club than just the one-year he signed when joining from CSKA Moscow last month.
