A team of volunteers sold a staggering 2,700 cakes to raise funds for an orphanage in Pakistan.

Since 2015, the volunteers have been coming together to support the Cakes 4 Orphans campaign organised by the charity Kashmir Orphanage Relief Trust (KORT).

In 2019, three dedicated volunteers, Raja Zaman, Atif Ali, and Amar Nasir, brought the campaign to Blackburn.

The Cakes 4 Orphans campaign involves selling cakes during the holy month of Ramadan to raise funds to support KORT. In 2019, Blackburn volunteers sold 2,300 cakes.

This year however, Blackburn volunteers were able to sell just over 2,700 cakes.

All the proceeds from the cakes go directly to KORT to support orphans in need, providing them with essential care, education, and support.

Towards the end of this year's campaign, the volunteers faced limited cake supplies. With such high demand, a special auction was organised on social media, with the last cake up for bidding.

The auction was done by Nadeem Malik from Bradford, the chief volunteer of the campaign. The auctioned cake was eventually sold for an astounding £1,000, reflecting the generosity and support of the community towards the cause.

The collective efforts of volunteers across England resulted in the sale of just over 21,000 cakes. The dedicated volunteers were even branded as the ‘King of Cakes’ by the supplier and public, who recognised their remarkable efforts.

Raja Zaman, who was awarded for volunteer of the year recently, said: "We are overwhelmed by the support we get from the Blackburn community for the Cakes 4 Orphans campaign.

"Despite the challenges we faced this year, we are proud to have sold over 2,700 cakes in 30 days and it’s been absolutely amazing."
