Fire crews are at the scene of a blaze at a Glasgow distillery. 

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent two engines to the scene on Moffat Street just before 2pm today. 

Emergency services said there were no injuries during the incident.

Locals living nearby said their homes smelled strongly of smoke as the blaze broke out in the building.


One crew remains at the scene as firefighters dampen down the area. 

Calls were made at 1.47pm to the Chivas Brothers Ballantine’s distillery. 

Whisky firm Ballantine’s opened in the Strathclyde Grain distillery in the Gorbals in 2002. 

The firm has been contacted for comment.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue service said: "Crews have extinguished a fire in a two-storey building.

"They remain at the scene."

At around 5 pm a Chivas Brothers spokesperson said: "Chivas Brothers experienced a small fire at its Strathclyde distillery today that was quickly extinguished by automatic systems on site.

"Employees were immediately notified by the safety systems in place and evacuated.

"The fire brigade were in attendance, no personnel were harmed and they have all returned to site."
