More than 3,000 Muslims took part in a birthday celebration of the Prophet Muhammad through the streets of Blackburn at the weekend.
The 'Milad Un Nabi Urs Sharif' event began at the Masjid Allah Hoo, based in Pringle Street, on Sunday afternoon, before heading across Higher Audley Street and on to Copy Nook and then on to Barbara Castle Way.
The crowds walked at a brisk pace then made its way towards Bastwell along Whalley Range and towards the Jamia Madina Mosque in Oak Street.
At the front of the event were senior imams who were joined by people of all ages for the special event which was described by organisers as a 'birthday parade for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the leader of the Naqshbandi Aslami Sufi Order and resident Imams respectively.'
At the Madina Mosque hundreds packed into the event to listen to an afternoon of Islamic nasheeds and speeches.
The celebratory event included the recital of the Noble Qur'an, remembrance of Allah and keynote speakers in English and Urdu recounting events from the life of the Noble Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Traffic was delayed on roads up to 15 minutes and road closures cleared very quickly after the procession had passed.
Volunteers were on hand to assist with crowd control but little support was needed.
The event was held to remember the life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
It attracted thousands of people from across the county and is organised by the Naqshbandiyya Aslamiyya Spiritual Welfare Organisation.
