PUPILS from Greengates Primary Academy celebrated National School Sport Week with sessions to promote learning through physical activity.

Reading Solutions UK, Tagtiv8, and the Leeds United Foundation collaborated on a “reading as a sport” initiative with children at the school as part of National School Sport Week in June.

Ian Turner, reading development consultant at Reading Solutions UK, said: “After the massive disruption of the past two years to children’s education, and the worrying statistics from NHS England that one in four children are obese by year six, and one in six children have a probable mental disorder, we wanted to raise awareness of National School Sport Week.

“These are worrying statistics, and we hope to bring physical and psychological enjoyment to every child’s literacy learning through our collaboration.”

Reading Plus is an online reading development programme that improves pupils’ reading fluency, stamina, and comprehension. Tagtiv8 Word is an innovative approach to delivering English and foundation subjects – using Physically Active Learning (PAL).

Samantha Dovey from Greengates Primary Academy added: “The children really enjoyed their morning, and we all found it very insightful. We feel very grateful to have had the opportunity to be involved.”
