A Bury police chief inspector has taken on a new role with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) after serving the borough for four years.

Chief Insp Jamie Collins made the announcement over the weekend, thanking his colleagues Inspector Scott Brady and Chief Superintendent Chris Hill as well as the "great people of Bury".

He will now work in GMP's Specialist Operations team.

On social media, he said: “Last day at GMP Bury North and GMP Bury South yesterday (Friday) after four fantastic years working with amazing colleagues Inspector Brady and Chief Superintendent Hill, local partners and the great people of Bury.

“Sad to leave but also looking forward to my new role in GMP Spec Ops.”

Bury Chief Superintendent Chris Hill heaped praise on his force colleague.

He tweeted: “Jamie, (a) great leader and friend, loss to Bury and great signing for the force to lead on events.

"Thanks for support and work over the years to keep good folk of Bury safe working with Bury Council among others.”

Inspector Brady added that Chief Insp Collins was a great boss.
