BRADFORD residents are in shock after news 10-year-old Tayab Akram, who was hit by a van in Wakefield Road last Wednesday, had died of his injuries this evening (Tuesday).

The youngster, from East Bowling, was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary after the collision which occurred just before 7pm on October 13.

Tayab was placed on life support in an induced coma but his injuries were too serious for him to recover.

Prayers and good wishes had been passed to the family after the incident and Tayab’s school friends at Bradford Academy said prayers for him when they found out the news.
Tayab had been out training with his boxing club when the collision occurred.

The news of his death last night was posted by close family friend Abdul Satar who said on social media: “Please remember this little angel in your duas.”

He said: “It is heartbreaking. We were so hopeful he would pull through but he was too poorly. He died at 6.30pm.

“The doctors and nurses at Leeds General Infirmary were marvellous and did all they possibly could but he was too badly injured. He never regained consciousness but they did their best for him. They will be just as devastated as everyone else.

“He was a super, beautiful, innocent little boy. We cannot believe what has happened. Everyone is devastated.

“The family wants to thank everyone who said prayers for Tayab and especially to the lady who tried to help Tayab with first aid and CPR at the roadside. She was so kind and compassionate to do what she did and the family wishes to thank her.”
Bowling ward councillor Hassan Khan said it was a tragedy.

“That is such sad news,” he said. “I want to pass my most sincere condolences to the family. It is a terrible loss and my thoughts go out to all of them for their loss.

“I was made aware of the accident last week. This news is so tragic and everyone will be in shock. The whole community will be saddened by this news.”

Fellow Bowling councillor Rizwana Jamil added: “It is such a terrible shock; a tragedy. I know the family quite well and I was in touch with Tayab’s uncle, Amjad Akram, regularly since last week and I want to pass my sincere condolences to the family.  We were all praying he would get well. We all felt so helpless because there was nothing we could do but wait and hope.

“I cannot imagine the loss his family is feeling. He was such a beautiful boy and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”

The news of Tayab’s accident was broken to his classmates at Bradford Academy.
Headteacher Tehmina Hashmi said shortly after the incident that the children in his year 6 class had been told as well as staff. Everyone said prayers for him and sent their best wishes to his parents and close family.

West Yorkshire Police said they are investigating the collision and are seeking witnesses who may have vital information.

A spokesman said: “Enquiries remain ongoing and anyone who saw or has dashcam footage of what took place is asked to contact the Western area Roads Policing Unit on 101 referencing police log 1490 of October 13.”  Information can also be given online at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat
