A BURGER restaurant has taken over the kitchen at a popular seafront bar for the summer.
Honest Burgers has launched a pop-up at Fortune of War in King’s Road on Brighton seafront.
The British burger chain has also collaborated with Laine Brew Co to create a new, limited edition burger exclusive to Fortune of War.
The Brighton Beach burger comes with a classic Honest Burgers beef patty, topped with salted caramel beer candied bacon, oak-smoked Mayfield cheese, shoestring fries, garlic mayonnaise and a pickleback coleslaw.
The beer-candied bacon is made with Eat More Buttons, a 7.1 per cent salted caramel stout that is a collaboration between Laine Brew Co and south London’s Mondo Brewing Company.
Laine Brew Co said the beer has notes of sea salt, chocolate and roasted caramel from the complex malt bill, which adds a rich flavour to the bacon and burger, and will also be available to drink at the pop-up.
Nathan Takoor, restaurateur at Honest Burgers Brighton, said: “Laine makes our Burger Beer house lager and supplies our Duke Street restaurant too, so we’ve become good friends over the last year.
“We’ve been looking to reach new areas of Brighton with our great British burgers and Laine has a pub on the beachfront that’s been crying out for good food.
“Burgers and beers on the beach – it’s going to be hard to beat this summer.”
The limited edition Brighton Burger is priced at £13.50 with Honest Burgers’s signature homemade rosemary salted chips included.
Dan Hills, managing director at the Laine Pub Company, which runs Fortune of War as well as several other pubs across the city, said: “We’re delighted to be launching another exciting new partnership with Honest Burgers.
“After the success of Laine Brew Co’s Burger Beer collaboration, we can’t wait to invite Honest Burgers into one of our Brighton pubs.
“Just like us, they started in Brighton and are a company who share a similar ethos to us, always putting the customer at the heart of everything they do.
“This summer you can order an Honest Burger and a pint of Burger Beer on the beach in Brighton at The Fortune of War.”
Honest Burgers now has several restaurants in London and across the country, but the idea for the business originated in Brighton.
It was founded by Tom Barton and Philip Eeles who met at Riddle and Finns restaurant in Meeting House Lane.
The pair were both working as waiters at the restaurant and decided to take the plunge and launch their own food business.
They agreed to put in £3,000 each for a tent, a grill and a fryer and served their first burgers at the Brighton Food Festival in 2009.
The following year they opened a tiny restaurant in Brixton Market in south London, making all sauces, relishes, pickles and chips from scratch.
They are the only burger company in the UK to have their own butchery, ensuring every patty is made using high-quality chuck and rib cap beef from native breed Gloucestershire cows.
Honest Burgers will be at Fortune of War until the end of the summer.
