MPs have urged police to take action after a 'shocking and disgraceful' video has emerged apparently showing a motorist doing more than 140mph on a Bradford motorway.
The 30-second-long video starts with the driver, in an Audi, travelling at 93mph when they join the M606. But they quickly accelerate and go past 100mph and even higher in just a few seconds.
A pair of Bradford district MPs have condemned the driving, saying they could have put their own, and other lives, at risk. The incident is believed to have been shot within the last week.
There is no exact time listed on the video for when the driving took place, but the motorway's lights are switched on.
Tonight, police confirmed they were now looking into the video.
The video, which has been circulated on social media, shows a close-up on the steering wheel and speedometer as the car's speed increases. The short film also sees the driver, who has not been identified, listening to music as they drive.
The car's windscreen wipers are also used during the video, as it was apparently filmed in wet conditions.
The shocking footage has also seemingly been filmed in, or around, the driver's seat.
Shipley MP Philip Davies blasted the driver's behaviour on the video, saying it was unbelievable.
He said: "This is truly shocking.
"Without a doubt that puts people's lives at risk. The driver has put the lives of themself, and other drivers, at risk.
"Driving at that speed, they can't possibly have as much control of their vehicle.
"It's absolutely disgraceful.
"I trust the police will identify the driver and when they do, I hope the courts through the book at them. It is disgraceful and shocking.
"That driver needs to be off the roads and banned from driving. It's absolutely unbelievable.
"Bradford has a terrible reputation for dangerous driving. This is not going to improve that reputation."
Bradford South MP Judith Cummins has condemned the driving, saying she will take the matter up with police.
She said: "Speed limits are there for a reason.
"Such a blatant disregard for other people's safety is sickening.
"I will be raising this matter with police.
"I will continue to work with the Telegraph & Argus to highlight incidents like this."
Mrs Cummins has been a long-standing campaigner on road safety in the Bradford district and has previously been awarded a parliamentarian road safety award by Brake and Direct Line for her dedication to championing the cause.
Meanwhile, Road safety campaigner Amjad Malik has also condemned the behaviour of the speeding driver captured in this video.
His son, Saliq Malik, 15, died from severe head and neck injuries after the Volkswagen Golf GTi in which he was a front seat passenger slid out of control in Gilpin Street, Barkerend, Bradford, on the morning of September 12, 2014.
Amjad said: "It's ridiculous that somebody has been doing that speed on the M606.
"It does shock you hearing of someone driving at that speed.
"When somebody drives past you at 90mph or 100mph you feel the shock waves yourself.
"This is completely shocking."
A Force spokesman said: “West Yorkshire Police is committed to working with partners to make our roads safer and has a facility on its website so people can report motoring offences.
“Since its launch in 2020, the digital submissions portal Op Snap has received more than 2,000 submissions and further action has been possible in more than two thirds of these.
“It is important that any camera evidence is sent to us as soon as possible, so we can investigate these matters and identify those responsible.”
