Hyndburn continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in the whole country after 107 positive tests were recorded.

In the seven days to May 1, the borough's infection rate rose to 132.0 cases per 100,000 people, up from 61.7 in the seven days to April 24.

This has been largely put down to an outbreak at Mount Carmel High School last month, where it was reported 50 staff and students tested positive for the virus.

In comparison, the Ribble Valley, which has the lowest infection rate in East Lancashire, recorded just six new positive tests in the seven days to May 1, taking their infection rate to 9.9 per 100,000 people.

This is a drop from the seven days to April 24, where the borough's infection rate stood at 11.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Hyndburn therefore has an infection rate 13 times higher than the Ribble Valley's.

The biggest increase in cases came from Accrington West, where 38 new infections were recorded in the seven days to April 30.

In Oswaldtwistle 36 new cases were reported in the same time frame, while in Broadfield and Knuzden, 22 people tested positive in the seven days to April 30.

Blackburn with Darwen's and Burnley's rates also rose, but they both have infection rates below 55 cases per 100,000 people.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 108 have seen a rise in rates, 193 have seen a fall and 14 are unchanged.

Bolton continues to have the second highest rate, up from 47.6 to 82.8, with 238 new cases.

North Lincolnshire has the third highest, up from 66.7 to 72.6, with 125 new cases.

The five areas with the biggest week-on-week rises are:
