Residents in the Audley area of Blackburn joined forces to clean up their neighbourbood.

Householders in Ripon Street, Nottingham Street, Queens Park Road and Lambeth Street came together to clear the alleyways and roads of any rubbish.

Over 30 people took part in the mammoth effort collecting 111 bags.

The idea came about after residents had set up a group via WhatsApp. Residents then asked others to join up and 40 householders responded.

Blackburn with Darwen Council provided bags and litter picking materials to assist residents.

Former Mayor Salim Mulla was one just one of the residents joined in. He said: “Something like this could be replicated across Blackburn.

“Thanks to Rammy Mulla from the group and Imran Hajat from the council.

“All the credit should go to the residents for their amazing efforts.

“People living there are now looking to name and shame anyone who fly-tips or does not discard their rubbish properly.”
