A FORMER flight attendant needs £15,000 to travel to Mexico for cancer treatment in a race against time.

Jabeen Anwer has stage four cancer which has spread to her pelvis, bowel, lining of heart and lung — three years after being cleared of stage four breast cancer.

Her family raised enough money for her first treatment in Tijuana, Mexico after doctors said they could do no more for her. But, after getting the all clear and stopping the medication due to costs, the cancer returned.

The family are once again in need of funds to make the trip as soon as possible for the 58-year-old be treated and have raised £35,000 of £50,000.

Razina Khan, wife of nephew Omar, said: “We need to go to Mexico for her treatment and with travel restrictions she wants to go before something else happens. She is really ill now.

“Mrs Anwer’s oldest daughter is due to get married soon and her mum thinks she will not make it.

“Seeing her so tired and ill, it is sad because we can’t do anything to make her feel better. She doesn’t even talk anymore because she has lost all hope.

“Cancer is common, but you do not understand it until it affects your family and my husband is so upset because she is like a second mum to him.”

Mrs Anwer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 and given three weeks to live. But the family did not give up hope and found The Immunity Centre in Mexico, flying out in December 2016 for four months.

Mrs Khan said: “We took loans out and borrowed money and with the treatment she got better, so it encouraged us.

“We were so grateful to see her walking and talking again, it was amazing to see her on the mend and was putting on weight.”

The medicines cost around £500 each month, and she was given the all clear in 2017.

But late last year the cancer came back at 50 per cent and Mrs Anwer has since used up all the treatment from the NHS, who cannot do any more.

Mrs Khan said: “We were in shock because we thought she was doing really well and hate seeing her like this. We hope that we can get the money we need to help her.”

Her new treatment in Mexico will cost £56,000 and the family are planning to go on Christmas Eve.
