TO celebrate the 45th Anniversary of Southampton winning the FA Cup next year, the creators of recent Saints book Life of A Saint are now working on their next project, Lawrie & The Boys of 76.

The brainchild of local TV presenter and author Michael Kurn and former Chairman of the Ex-Saints Mike Thew, this new documentary will tell the story of how Southampton went to Wembley and won the cup, from the third round v Aston Villa to that unforgettable bus tour around the city.

They have teamed up with Tim Ryan from local production company Echo Eighty to create the documentary and it will feature brand new interviews with the squad and the fans.

The movie will be released on the anniversary, May 1, with a red carpet premiere the week before.

Apart from creating the definitive documentary about the final, the writers hope to support the heroes of 76 and the plan is to write each player a cheque for £1,976 to say thank you.

To achieve this they are inviting the fans to be part of the project. The creative team have put together a crowdfunding project to help them raise the funds needed add they are looking for support as Saints take on their cup final opponents Manchester United at St Mary's Stadium this weekend.

“We are building this project from the ground up and we really would love the fans to be part of it. Just like the Life of a Saint book, this is a passion project and we want to ensure our heroes of 1976 are never forgotten," said director Michael Kurn.

“We are asking all season ticket holders to consider using their match refund from the Southampton v Manchester United game to support the project. If just 1,500 fans support the £19 package we would reach our target.”

In exchange for their support, fans will receive a collectors edition of the DVD and have their name in the credits of the film. There are also three other packages which all come with exciting perks, including invites to the premiere, a VIP drink reception and limited edition artwork.

“If just five per cent of a match day crowd at St Marys got behind this project we can say a massive thank you to the boys who gave us our greatest day of history. We know times are tough for us all at the moment but we hope our packages offer something special in exchange for their support and will also give us all something to look forward to in 2021.”
