FIFTY Days of Lockdown is the debut book by Southampton based author Mark Ind and tells the remarkable story of his son's recovery from major heart surgery.

Each copy sold will boost the coffers of Wessex Heartbeat, a charity which means so much to the Ind family, from Chandler's Ford.

Some people say lockdown was a time to forget but for the Ind family it was a time to savour.

A year before, they had their own lockdown when Alex, now 22, was taken very seriously ill and ended up in hospital for nearly three months.

Fifty Days of Lockdown documents how one family made the best out of possibly one of the most unprecedented times that many of us will ever have to live through.

Based on a daily journal, the book also chronicles the historical events of and leading up to Covid-19 whilst telling Alex’s amazing story and his incredible 10K challenge, which he completed on the first day after the lockdown restrictions were eased.

Author Mark Ind said: “Launching a book about Lockdown 1 in Lockdown 2 seems quite a surreal thing to be doing but the fact that I have completed this project in a relatively short timeframe and that it can hopefully help raise funds for a local charity close to our hearts, is both rewarding and hugely satisfying.”

The Ind family are very grateful for all the support Wessex Heartbeat have given them over the years and a contribution from each book sold will be donated to the charity.

John Munro - CEO Wessex Heartbeat added: “Donations from sales will really help us to continue supporting those with heart disease.

"Having been lucky to get a sneaky peak at the content, you will not only be moved, but you will also laugh, a lot!”
