A DRINK driver ran into the back of another car as they were travelling on the M65 near Barrowford.

Blackburn magistrates heard the collision would prove costly for Brendan Blackett who faced taxi bills of £800 a month if he is to keep his job.

Blackett, 43, of Long Ing Lane, Barnoldswick, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was banned for 13 months and fined £375 with £85 costs and £37 victim surcharge.

Katie Lord, prosecuting, said Blackett was spoken to by police while he was being treated by paramedics.

He admitted drinking earlier in the evening while he was watching football in Burnley.

The driver of the other car said they were travelling in lane one when they were hit from behind by the car driven by Blackett.

John Rusius, defending, said his client had been out in the afternoon and had a few drinks.

He then went home where he got a phone call inviting him out again.

"He thought he would be alright to drive," said Mr Rusius.

"The only way he is going to be able to get to work without his car is by taxi and that will cost him £800 a month."
