A fight erupted at a petrol station after two people appear to have challenged another person over the ‘wearing of a mask’.

In video footage being shared on social media a man is seen holding back another person whilst another two women are being filmed by another shopper. As violence flares the shopper is confronted by the two women at the Spar Petrol Station on Manchester Road, Oldham.

It is unsure what other reasons led to the eruption of violence.

The incident took place before 3.40pm on Wednesday 21 October 2020 where officers received a report that a man and a woman, both aged in their 40s, had been assaulted on Manchester Street, Oldham.

The shouting and violence continues for minutes with the person recording the incident stating they would be handing the footage to the police.

Two separate fights then erupt at the same time and eventually the larger man is thrown to the floor. He is then kicked by a woman as he lays on the floor.

Onlookers then intervene and it appears the man has what is believed to be a cut to the head. The two women and the other man then leave in a car.

Police said Initial enquiries indicate that a disagreement occurred between two groups of people which resulted in a number of assaults taking place.

Temp Superintendent Niall Hayden-Pawson said: “We are aware that there is footage circulating on social media in relation to this assault. However, I would like to make it clear that this footage does not capture the entire disagreement which is why we are appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information that will help us in our investigation.

“Our officers are trying to piece together the exact circumstances which led to this assault. If you have any information at all that will assist with our enquiries and help us to establish the full picture of events then please do not hesitate to contact police.”

Police said a 41-year-old man was treated for minor injuries at the scene. No other injuries have been reported. No arrests have been made at this time and enquiries remain ongoing.
