MORE than 850 Hampshire residents have tested positive for coronavirus in seven days.

A further 855 people have tested positive for the virus in the seven days running up to October 15.

The figures from Public Health England are based on tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community.

It comes as the Government ramps up testing for the virus across the UK.

In Southampton, 149 people tested positive for the virus in the seven days before October 15, compared to the 140 people who tested positive in the seven days running up to October 8.

A further 83 people tested positive for coronavirus in Eastleigh, compared to the 64 positive tests the week prior.

The New Forest saw 111 positive tests in the most recent week, up from 75 positive cases recorded in the seven days before October 8.

In Test Valley, cases have dropped from 107 positive cases the week before to 76 cases in the seven days up October 15.

In Winchester, 86 people have tested positive for the virus in the most recent week, compared to 84 positive tests the week before.

In Fareham there have been 61 new positive cases recorded and in Gosport there have been 25.

Portsmouth has seen a huge increase in cases with 264 cases recorded in the seven days up October 15, compared to 167 cases recorded the week prior.
