An ‘upmarket’ Asian mithai (sweets) brand has launched its first store in Blackburn.

Barfia London has opened its first counter inside the revamped J Lifestyle store on Eanam in the town with a second set to launch in Bolton later this month.

Whilst many traditional Asian mithai stores have tended to produce the delicacies in store a growing number are selling ready made products.

Barfi London Mithai is described as ‘the first Indian confectionery house to bring an artisan twist to traditional Indian sweets’. Their confectionery is made at their central location and shipped out within 24 hours to their branches.

Customers can pre-order online and pick up at a location closest to them.

Manager Akil Desai of Blackburn said: “It is wonderful to be bringing such a high-end brand to Blackburn. This will be the first store to open in the North West and we will then be launching in Bolton. There are plans then to open a store in Preston and then at a location in Greater Manchester.

“Barfia is the world’s finest artisan Indian sweets and as customers will find out is unlike other traditional mithai stores. We hope the new flavours of Indian sweets and designs will be popular with people from the north west.

“I think people are looking for something a little different for their special occasions these days and the Barfia brand will be a great addition to the town.”

Barfia London presently has 12 stores across the UK and was established in 2013 by Sam Garcha, a specialist cake designer.

Her popularity eventually led to international demand for her products and Sam was hired to provide unique Indian sweets at a high-end weddings. Sam conceived the idea of making a ‘deep red velvety ladoo topped with golden almond chips’ and with the ensuing success Barfia London was born.

The Bolton branch will open on Blackburn Road next Friday.
