THESE are the latest figures for the seven-day rate of new Covid-19 cases for every local authority area in Wales.

The figures, for the seven days to September 22, are based on tests carried out in NHS Wales laboratories and tests conducted on Welsh residents processed in commercial laboratories.

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Data for the most recent three days (September 23-25) has been excluded as it is incomplete and likely to be revised.

Here in North Wales, Denbighshire and Flintshire have the highest rate with 38 and 56 new cases recorded in the seven days to September 22. This means Flintshire has the equivalent of 35.9 new cases of coronavirus per 100,000 people. The figure for Denbighsire is 39.7.

Wrexham's rate of new cases is much lower at 14 per 100,000 people.

In Merthyr Tydfil, 129 new cases were recorded in the seven days to September 22 – the equivalent of 213.8 per 100,000 people. This is the highest rate in Wales and it is up from 81.2 in the seven days to September 15.

Blaenau Gwent has the second highest rate, up from 40.1 to 209.0, with 146 new cases.

Rhondda Cynon Taf is in third place, where the rate has risen from 119.8 to 170.4 with 411 new cases.

In the areas facing new restrictions the rates were:

  • Swansea (up from 19.4 to 63.6, with 157 new cases)
  • Carmarthenshire – the local authority covering Llanelli (up from 12.2 to 57.7, with 109 new cases)
  • Cardiff (up from 24.8 to 46.1, with 169 new cases)

The list has been calculated by the PA news agency and is based on data published on the Public Health Wales Covid-19 surveillance dashboard on September 25.
