CHILDREN have raised money for St Mary's Hospice by selling apples and pears they have picked themselves.
William, aged six, Niamh, aged 10, who attend Flookburgh C of E Primary and Emma, age 12 who attends Cartmel priory decided they wanted to do something to raise money for St Mary’s because they realised that our usual fundraising activities have been affected by Covid.
They sold apples and pears from the trees in their garden outside their house at the weekend and raised £55.00.
Kate Nelson, the children’s mum, said: “As we weren’t able to help this year at Grasmere for K2B my children decided they would like to help raise some pennies. They waited for our Apple and pear trees to be ready to pick from and have sold them in our village.”
Clare Paling, area fundraiser for St Mary's Hospice, said: “The Nelson family were a great help with the K2B last year, and it’s delightful that they have decided to do something to help again.
"We love to see our young fundraisers in action, and we can all learn a lot from their simple but effective ideas and enthusiasm. Thank you to the children, their family for allowing their fruit to be sold and to the generous people of the village that contributed.
"Another wonderful example of our community supporting St Mary’s, and hopefully having some delicious homemade crumbles and pies afterwards too!”
