A DRIVER has been banned from the road for 20 months after he was caught behind the wheel while more than twice the drink drive limit.

Steven Ramsay Moore appeared before Workington's magistrates' court on Monday.

He pleaded guilty to driving a Mercedes on Horsfield Court in Whitehaven while the alcohol content in his breath was 71 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 micrograms.

The offence took place on July 11.

Moore, of Greenlands Close in Whitehaven, was not represented during the court hearing.

The 64-year-old was disqualified from driving for 20 months.

His ban will be reduced if he completes a driving course by September 20 next year.

Moore was fined £120 by the court.

He was also ordered to pay a £34 surcharge to fund victim services.

The court also instructed him to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

He must pay the balance by September 7.
