Traffic is building up on roads around Dorset as thousands of holidaymakers travel down to the coast to enjoy this weekend’s heatwave.

An amber heatwave alert has been issued by the Met Office, with temperatures expected to reach up to 34C in Dorset.

Traffic is currently queueing both ways on the A35 between East Road Business Park in Bridport and Sun Lane in Morcombelake.

Drivers are also stuck in delays in both directions on the A35 between Troytown turn-off in Puddletown and the A37 up to Monkeys Jump roundabout in Dorchester.

In Purbeck, traffic is building on the A351 southbound from A35 by Bakers Arms Roundabout to A351 Wareham Roundabout.

In the east of the county, car parks in Sandbanks are full and are now closed and there's also a "long queue" for the ferry.

Morebus is adding extra buses to its Purbeck Breezer 50 service, which runs between Bournemouth and Swanage, to accommodate additional passengers.

There are also long delays and queueing traffic on the M27 westbound between J4 near the M3 interchange and J1 A31 through Cadnam, which may affect drivers travelling to Dorset.

Traffic was delayed on the M5 this morning due to a broken down car as visitor headed to the westcountry including Dorset.

Tailbacks were reported southbound between junction 16 at Aztec West and junction 17 at Cribbs Causeway.

Queues were also reported on the A303, A37 and A30.

On the trains, South Western Railway has warned that services between London and Weymouth will be diverted via Guildford this weekend, adding up to 40 mins on the journey.
