WHILE Lewis Hamilton may be the moving ahead in the F1 World Championship with victory at Silverstone and another grand prix to come this weekend, back in 1986 another track was getting a lot of attention much closer to home.

The ‘bowling green’ circuit didn’t have run-off areas, it was extremely bumpy in parts and regularly needed a good mow. But that didn’t stop motorsport enthusiasts of all ages from heading to Bradley Fold every weekend for some competitive racing.

The circuit was at the rear of the Queens Hotel and had been created on the pub’s disused bowling green.

High powered cars would fly around the circuit driven by members of the Bolton Radio Controlled Model Car Club who had made the Queens Hotel their base.

A special raised grandstand had been built for the drivers to stand on giving them a clear view of the whole circuit to better control their cars.
