Westhoughton’s bowlers did the damage as they picked up a win over Little Lever in the latest round of action in the Anthony Axford Bolton Cricket League Premiership.

With his quickfire 45 from 33 deliveries Little Lever’s middle-order batsman Curtis Anderton scored more than half the runs to come from the bat as his team were bowled out for 93.

Adam Patel led the way for his side taking 5-15, while Kieran Edwards chipped in with 3-26 and Rob Brown 2-20.

Anderton then took two early wickets and finished with 3-17 but Ryan Chaisty held the middle order together and Westhoughton recorded a fairly comfortable five-wicket victory.

Lostock hit 233 in their 40 overs against Heaton with Danny Vincent making 82 of these and featuring in two significant partnerships.

He helped put on a century for the first wicket with Sam Barlow who contributed 29 and 70 for the second wicket with Connor Hicklin who recorded 55.

The pick of the Heaton bowlers were Irfan Mohammad who took 5-40 and Sandeep Varsani with 3-47. Joe Ball set Heaton on the way with 38, then Ollie Sutcliffe became their top scorer with 71 and featured in an 86-run partnership with Luca Williams-Denton.

Mohammad then finished a good all-round performance on the day by steering Heaton to victory in the last over with 27 not out.

There was a close finish too at Farnworth Social Circle, where Joe Capstick made 34 for the hosts in a half century opening partnership with Aryan Soma.

Dean Morris took 3-34 as Circle ended their innings on 158.

Tom Billington scored 48 for Horwich and Brett Pelser 37, but at 141-7 Circle were still in with a chance.

However Jordan Higham’s 21 took Horwich to the brink of victory which was achieved by two wickets.

Dave Mather with 4-49 was largely responsible for making this a close contest.

Walkden’s game at home to Farnworth ended in controversy. The match was abandoned due to a dispute over the use of changing rooms, the visitors opting not to play which was deemed a concession under league rules. A final ruling will be made by the league shortly.
