AT the time she was arguably the most famous cleaner in the country.
Hilda Ogden, played by actress Jean Alexander, was one of the most popular characters on the long-running TV soap Coronation Street.
In 1969 various members of the cast left their home in Weatherfield behind them and made some promotional visits around the country.
Hilda - complete with trademark curlers and apron - headed to Mount Pleasant School in Clayton-le-Moors where she lent the real school cleaners a hand.
She is pictured looking rather pleased with herself while the real cleaners Mrs J Smith, Mrs S Turner and Mrs Middleton get on with it.
Sadly we don’t know what the pupils made of the fact that they had a star in their midst. They probably just thought they’d got a new cleaner.
If you remember Jean Alexander visting the school do let us know. Send your memories and any photographs you may have to bygones@nqnw.co.uk
