Bolton cricket sides got league action up and running properly at the weekend after a first weekend washout.

There was no play in the meeting between Horwich and Heaton but there was plenty of action elsewhere in the Anthony Axford Premiership as teams enjoyed their first real action of the delayed campaign.

Last year’s champions Walkden faced Farnworth Social Circle with the latter batting first and making 133-8 in their 40 overs, Jamie Bohannon scoring 40 and Liam Ashworth 32.

Sabah Ghaus took 3-28 with Tahir Maqsood and Usman Tariq chipping in with two wickets apiece.

Walkden were indebted to Josh Wilson for his 41 runs in their two-wicket win.

The Bolton News:

Dave Mather took 3-32 with Bohannon and Chris Barrow picking up two wickets each.

Kearsley batted first at home to Farnworth and hit 228-5 in their 40 overs.

Skipper Cameron Murray was the leading run scorer of the day with 92 and was involved in a first-wicket partnership of 120 with Aman Arora.

Mohammed Jameel then smashed 38 off 28 deliveries at the end of the innings, including four sixes.

Matthew Hicks was the pick of the bowlers with 3-60 off 10 overs.

Farnworth were reduced to 16-4, but then a 75-run partnership between Neil Hyde and Simon Booth kept them in the match.

Murray and Jameel continued to dominate the game however with the former recording figures of 3-25 and the latter 5-27 as Farnworth subsided to 114 all out.

The most exciting match took place at Lostock, where 35 from Conner Hicklin steered the home side to 108-5 in a match reduced to 24 overs a side after a delayed start, Josh Hill taking 3-32 for Little Lever.

Tom Sheen took 3-32 in the Little Lever innings, with Adil Nisar their top scorer with 23.

The last over arrived with seven wickets down and 10 required for victory, which was achieved with two runs off the last ball with Terry Hargreaves steering the visitors to victory.
