CAMERON Borthwick-Jackson is closing in on a Latics return.

The left back was released by Manchester united at the end of his contract having played six games on loan at Boundary Park before the League Two season was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now the Daily Mail reports the 23-year-old has agreed a one-year deal with Oldham.

Boss Dino Maamria made no secret of his admiration for the former Old Trafford prospect during his time with the club at the start of 2020.

"He’s a Premier League player playing in League Two,” the head coach said in January.

“He came in head down and showed what he needs to do to put his career back on track.

“He’s a humble guy and his quality is there for everyone to see.

“We’re lucky to have him and let’s see what happens. If we can keep him next season then that would be brilliant.

“He’s enjoying his football and is happy to be here which is always pleasing.”

Borthwick-Jackson has also had loan spells with Wolves, Leeds, Scunthorpe and Tranmere.

He made 14 first-team appearances for United in all including six Premier League starts.
