A HANDFUL of pubs which reopened their doors to customers in England on Saturday after months of lockdown have been forced to close again.
Three establishments have had to inform their customers after patrons in attendance at the weekend tested positive for Covid-19.
In Somerset, the Lighthouse Kitchen and Carvery began making its way through a list of people who had been at the bar on Saturday after a customer received a positive coronavirus test. They added all staff would be tested.
In Batley, West Yorkshire, the Fox and Hounds said it would be closed indefinitely after a customer called yesterday to inform them they had tested positive for the virus. It said the pub will be fully deep cleaned and all staff had been tested.
Meanwhile in Alverstoke, Gosport, the Village Home Pub said it had a case of coronavirus and some staff members were now in isolation.
Posting on Facebook, they said: "The pub is now shut but all being well will open again on Saturday. Anyone who was in the pub over the weekend there is no need to isolate unless you show symptoms or are contacted direct by the trace group. Thank you and hope to see you soon.”
In Scotland, pubs and other hospitality venues are due to reopen on July 15 – but the First Minister has warned now is not the time to let down our guards when it comes to coronavirus.
Highlighting stories of new lockdowns being imposed around the world as countries reopen, Nicola Sturgeon made her stance clear.
She posted: “Last few RTs highlight some global COVID developments. Some of the media/political debate here just now - ‘why aren’t we opening up more quickly?’ - seems to be blind to that reality. If it gets out of control again, lives will be lost/damaged and the economy will suffer more.”
