POLICE investigating a fatal crash in Apperley Bridge have arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Isma Nawaz, 38, was pronounced dead after a collision on Harrogate Road at around 5.40am yesterday (Tuesday, June 23).

A vehicle was also recovered in relation to the arrest.

The 25-year-old has since been released under investigation to allow enquiries to continue.

The Major Collision Enquiry Team have issued an urgent appeal to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or what happened prior to it.

In particular, the team would like to speak to any cyclists who were in the area around that time.

Isma was driving a black Vauxhall Astra which collided with a parked car close to the junction with Parkin Lane.
