A speeding driver who hit Bradford’s Five Lane Ends roundabout while fleeing from the police in a stolen car has been jailed for 20 weeks.

Christopher Fletcher was at the wheel of a Ford Kuga taken in a robbery in the city on January 12 when he was spotted by the police on Morrisons car park near the roundabout early the following morning.

Fletcher, 31, of Sandhill Mount, Idle, Bradford, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, driving over the alcohol limit, driving without insurance and failing to provide a specimen for a drugs test.

Prosecutor Camille Morland said he led the police on a short pursuit along Bradford Road before clipping the roundabout. He ran off but was found hiding nearby.

He had 17 previous convictions for 29 offences, including an aggravated vehicle taking in 2006.

Fletcher, who was banned from driving for 18 months, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court yesterday on a video link to Leeds Prison.

His barrister, Laura McBride, said he had been in custody since committing the offences.

Because of the length of time he was held on remand, Judge Jonathan Gibson told Fletcher he had already served his sentence.
