THIS week's trip down West Fife's Memory Lane is supplied by Heather Anderson, of Dunfermline, and is sure to spark a lot of memories among her fellow Press readers.

Heather has provided photographs of Dunfermline's Victoria Restaurant, which was situated on Bruce Street. They were given to her by the owner, who she thinks was called Alistair, on the last day before they closed down in 2001.

The first photograph shows the main entrance situated where the yellow bin is. It is on the crossroads opposite the Town House and the photograph was taken by Heather from the Town Hose steps the day it closed. Plus, the sign on the door entrance to advise customers it was closing.

Heather, who was born and brought up in Dunfermline and describes herself as "a very proud Dunfermlonian!" told us she was born in what was then known as the 'Waxwing', which she says were Nissan Huts used for Service families) in Townhill, then moving to Priory Lane.

She writes: "The reason (apart from the fact The Victoria was a 'national treasure' in Dufermline) I was particularly interested in this restaurant is I went there many times with my late parents for different family celebrations meals over the years, and then later when I had my own family, I continued the tradition.

"I was very sad to see it close down. I purchased a few of the items during their sale ... the high chair my son used (I have a pic of him sitting in it!) to sit in and the mirror which was on the Victoria Restaurant wall all the years it was open. I donated that mirror recently to a gents' hairdresser in St Margaret's Street (the name of which I have momentarily forgotten)."

Do other readers share fond memories of The Victoria or indeed other Dunfermline cafes or restaurants that are now, sadly, gone but not forgotten?
