The Elgiva in Chesham Embraces 'The New Normal' by switching their panto to make it easier for the cast to social distance due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In light of the current pandemic, The Elgiva Theatre and New Pantomime Productions have taken the decision to change this year's pantomime and ensure they are prepared for whatever happens next.
The theatre, which is wholly owned and operated by Chesham Town Council, was originally planning to show Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in December, but due to the current restrictions and social distancing guidelines, will now be showing the wonderful fairytale The Sleeping Beauty.
Manager David Cooper said: “We are thrilled to be bringing The Sleeping Beauty to our stage in December. The safety and well-being of our customers, staff and performers is paramount and we feel changing our pantomime is the right thing to do under the circumstances; Sleeping Beauty means fewer people backstage, as there won't be any dwarfs, so we can ensure the cast has the proper social distancing. Changing it now means we can really ensure we have a quality production ready for our audience later in the year.
“We are delighted to welcome back to its stage Ben Moseby, Chris Casey and Sean Luckham. These chaps are guaranteed to have the audience laughing its Christmas socks off. New Pantomime Productions are some of the most experience people in the panto business, so we are guaranteed to have another smashing show for our audience.”
With a 'stellar' cast already signed up, The Sleeping Beauty is set to be another quality production for The Elgiva, building on the success of last year’s Cinderella, their first collaboration with NPP.
The Elgiva will continue to demonstrate its inclusivity, with both a relaxed and signed productions and by welcoming a host of local schools, care homes, Cubs, Brownies, work outings and families to its pantomime.

David Cooper added: “Christmas isn't Christmas without a panto – we promise a proper family pantomime, filled with spectacular special effects, fabulous songs, wonderful costumes, great gags and oodles of slapstick. And of course plenty of audience participation and sing-a-longs.”
