STAFF at Crossgates Primary School have brought smiles and cheer to pupils by creating a video sharing the love.

An end-of-school-year video has become a tradition at the school but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it's particularly poignant this year with pupils and teachers separated from each other.

The video begins with headteacher Sheona McCulloch delivering a 'Lockdown News Bulletin' before the staff are seen dancing around their homes, gardens and streets to ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.’

Lisa O’Donnell, Primary 4 teacher and video creator, said: "This our eighth video since we started this tradition and the message we wanted to get out there is that we miss our pupils as much as they miss us!

"We can't wait to see all their smiling faces again.

"The staff love creating these videos and we really wanted to do something to share with the school community.

"It started off in 2013 just as a way to say goodbye to the P7s but we realised that other people leave too so it just sprang up from there.

"We normally leave it until the last week of school but we brought it forward this time just to share the message with the community."

The video was shared on the Crossgates Primary School Facebook page with more than 200 views in the first hour!

Many parents commented how emotional it made them feel and how lovely it was to see the staff.

Lisa added: "It was clearly very emotional and it shows just how much the school is a part of the community.

"As a staff, we have very much remained part of a team whether it be catching up online or video-calling our classes and keeping in contact with them.

"Keeping them motivated with their learning has been the main thing.

"Nothing will stop us educating our children!"
