A POPULAR summer fete will be held online to help spread some joy during lockdown.
Lexden Fete takes place later this month and was expected to see hundreds of people turn out to enjoy a day of festivities in St Leonard’s churchyard.
And while crowds won’t be able to gather organisers decided to find a way to ensure it could still go ahead, albeit virtually.
Activities will include socially distanced morris dancing and a scruffiest pet show.
Organisers are inviting people to submit photographs and videos for a number of the categories.
An afternoon at the movies fancy dress show will feature snaps of people dressed as a favourite film character.
The vegetable and fruit show is seeking photographs for the categories of largest home-grown vegetable or fruit and funniest-shaped vegetable or fruit.
People are also asked to send a ten-second video clips and photographs of scruffiest pets and pet most like owner. Photos are also sought for flower arrangements and cake decorating.
People are asked to submit photos and short recordings of artworks be it a picture of the building, a poem about the community, or a piece of music about Lexden. Lego brick enthusiasts are asked to try to recreate St Leonard’s in Lego to mark the 200th anniversary of the church building.
This year’s online event will be via YouTube and Facebook videos and will begin airing at 2pm on Saturday, June 20.
Submissions for the fete should be sent through WeTransfer.com or another file sharing service to fete@stleonardslexden.org.uk by 9am on Friday, June 12.
Contributors are asked to include their name and age.
