FORMER England football star Martin Keown has teamed up with Oxford City Council to promote the work being done by the council during the coronavirus pandemic.

In the video posted on social media this afternoon, the former Arsenal defender says: “I’m Oxford born and bred and very proud of my city.

“People in Oxford have been amazing at helping each other since we went into lockdown in March.

“Teamwork is all about supporting each other through the tough periods as well as the good times and that’s what will get us through these unprecedented times.

“The coronavirus crisis has been hard for everyone but if you need extra help during the pandemic, Oxford City Council and Oxford Hub have teamed up to help.

“They are offering support to people who are in need, so please get in touch if you’ve had an NHS letter identifying you as high risk, if you need food bank support, have physical or mental health needs, if you’re self-isolating or you’re vulnerable for some other reason.”

In a nod to the Arsenal ‘Invincibles’ team that Mr Keown played in and that won the Premier League in 2004 by going the season unbeaten, Mr Keown says at the end of the video ‘together we are invincible’.

Since retiring from his playing career 15 years ago, Mr Keown has become a familiar face in football coverage, by establishing himself as a leading pundit, making regular appearances on Match of the Day, and for BT Sport.
