THIS shocking picture shows the aftermath after a suspected arson attack which destroyed two vehicles on a residential street.

The dramatic scene unfolded in the early hours of the morning on Ashbourne Crescent, Queensbury.

Tom Molloy, who lives nearby, rushed to the scene.

He said: "I live in a bungalow, so on the ground floor with the bedroom window open I head a few loud noises and a car horn that lasted for approximately 20 seconds.

"I got up and looked out the window and saw smoke billowing from the bungalows at the front.

"I quickly got dressed and by the time I was outside, I could see blue sirens silhouette with the smoke."

Mr Molloy said it was though fuel had leaked from the van, which had caused the fire to spread to the car.

He added: "It's mainly elderly residents. I just tried to make sure than anyone that came outside was OK. It's a frightening experience for the elderly."

The 54-year-old said it was "dreadful" and that "it could have been catastrophic" as it's so close to bungalows for older people.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "We received a call at 2.24am on Friday, May 29, reporting a van on fire on Ashbourne Crescent, Queensbury. The fire service had also been called.

"On attending the scene, police established that a grey ford panel van was on fire, however, a second vehicle, a white Hyundai car was also discovered burnt out.

"It is suspected that the fire was started deliberately and police are investigating.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are continuing. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 111 quoting log number 0185 of 29/05/2020."
