POLICE were out last night patrolling parks after reports of people not following social distancing rules.

And officers said they were pleased with what they saw — but warned with the warm weather forecast for the area there may be some who will break the "stay home" rule.

Police will continue to monitor open spaces to ensure people are not congregating or out without reason.

Under Government rules to contain coronavirus, people must stay in their homes and only go out for an hour's exercise, shop for essentials or medical reasons, which includes supporting vulnerable members of society, such as delivering food.

GMP Bolton North visited Tonge Park and Longsight Park following reports and comments made on social media.

Officers said the people they came across were following the rules.

Posting on GMP Bolton North Facebook page, officers said: "Following a number of reports and also your previous comments on social media we have had a number of officers from Bolton North attend at the local parks in our communities and fortunately they have only come across local dog walkers or people exercising.

"We anticipate that with the nice weather forecast tomorrow that sadly some people will not be adhering to government advice to Stay Home, Protect the NHS and Save Lives.

"Officers will be deployed to monitor our open spaces, please ensure that you only leave your house for essential journeys. You can spread coronavirus even if you are not showing symptoms."
