British Pakistanis stranded in Pakistan have spoken of their frustration at price hikes and cancellations.

Many have say they feel abandoned by the British Government despite £75m being allocated to get people from across the world.

There was also criticisms directed PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) with travellers unable to get to the airport.

PIA announced they will operate two flights on Saturday from Islamabad to Manchester and from Islamabad to London.

Shazad Shauket of Blackburn said, “Myself and my 10 year old son have been in Pakistan since 20th March.

“We had originally planned to stay till the 29th but our Emirates flight got cancelled due to the travel ban.

“Selected flights were made available through Qatar and PIA but the costs were extortionate. Some people were paying £2200 for a one-way ticket out of pure desperation to return home.

“I also purchased a new ticket with Qatar for 3rd April which was cancelled, rescheduled for 8th, cancelled again and now rescheduled 18th April.

“In the meantime the British government has pledged £75 million towards repatriating stranded brits. PIA have since been contacting stranded Brits offering a one way ticket to the UK for £1000.

"Many are disappointed with PIA’s hike in prices cashing in on brits at a time when they should be helping us.”

This morning the British High Commissioner of Pakistan, Dr Christian Turner posted this update stating that PIA would be advertising further flights today.

“Bahut shukriya Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for your partnership at this difficult time #TogetherWeCan - 3 full flights will go to Manchester & Heathrow this weekend, carrying some of the most vulnerable Brits who got in touch with @ukinpakistan.

“From midday today (PST) PIA will advertise 8 more flights to 🇬🇧5-8 April - if you still need tickets please now go here to book direct.

“We appreciate that some stranded Brits may need emergency financial assistance - details of support are here

“Many of you are asking about UK Government chartered flights - these are for countries where commercial routes are blocked.
Payment is still required for charters. A few charters will not meet the needs of so many, hence our focus on opening routes to get 1000s home.”

However, travellers told of their frustrations at not being able to get to the airport.

Yasmeen posted, “Stuck in Faisalabad. Motorway is closed.5 hour drive through back roads then 4 hours plus in airport then journey to Manchester then on to Motherwell Scotland. My husband who is a diabetic on insulin 4 times a day and other meds would certainly be ready for the grave. We flew with Qatar Edinburgh Doha Faisalabad then 15 mins to family home. Don’t know what to do.”

Ayjaz Hussain said, “What happened to F/Sec promise to get people home at little or no extra cost? This was a stitch up for PIA to make money through the desperation of others using exorbitant pricing and FCO is complicit in this. How did you get people from provinces in Peru to Lima and then back to the UK?”

Zakir Tauqeer Ul Hassan said, “This is an absolute joke. We are a family of 8 who would need to be £900 each for a one way flight. FCO and the UK government have let us down.”

Tariq Nawaz said, “Stuck in Karachi and can’t get to Islamabad or Lahore. Also charging people over the top especially for the vulnerable. Just remember PIA you all have to answer to Allah one day.”

Zakir Tauqeer Ul Hassan said, "Is it just me or can anyone else not find any available flights on PIA website?"
